Next Steps
Answer the following questions, journal about them, pray about them, or discuss them with a counselor or trusted friend.
-
Not all curses and vows are evident right away, but you can trust that they will come up when the time is right for you to deal with them. Still, some may already be out in the open, waiting for you to conquer them and turn them around. Reread some of the examples in this chapter to help you get started, and then make a list of all the curses and vows that come to mind. Ask God to help you remember and point out the specific ones He wants to deal with right now.
-
For each item in your list, write down at least one Scripture that shows the truth which God reveals about that curse or vow.
-
Now go through the list, and one by one begin to break the power of those curses and vows in your life. Do this out loud if you can.
-
Once these curses and vows have been broken, replace them with a blessing. Bless those areas of your life and speak truth to them with the Scriptures you found.
-
Finally, take a moment to praise God for this victory. Thank Him for the work He’s just done in your life. Now that you’ve had this victory, there’s no stopping you when these things creep up again. Keep watch for them, both for those that you’ve made in the past, and for those that you make in the present, and don’t let them hold you any longer. You’re getting free!
Now pray this prayer with us:
Father, I’ve made some outright dumb promises in my life. And I’ve received curses that I never asked for or wanted, but that hurt me very much. I don’t want to hold on to these lies anymore. I don’t want to live my life believing anything but Your truth and Your Word and Your promises over me. Lord, help me to see these things for what they are, to identify them, and to break their power in my life. Replace the lies with Your truth and heal my heart of the pain they have caused me over all these years. Take every curse and every vow and turn them around—redeem them for Your glory. Thank You for healing my heart and for bringing me on this journey. Thank You for being with me through this pain and for bringing me safely through this darkness and into Your glorious light. I so love and adore You, Father. Amen.
