Introduction
Curses and vows are binding promises and beliefs that keep us from the true freedom God intended. When they become strongholds in our lives, it’s as if we’ve erected roadblocks in our way to keep us from going down certain paths and to try to point us in a different direction, not allowing God to direct us freely and not bearing our own freedom to follow Him wherever He goes.
We’re going to look in this section at the unhealthy and unrighteous breed of curses and vows, but it’s important to realize that not all curses and vows are bad. For example, we’re firm believers in vows of covenant between two people (such as marriage vows), and God Himself both blesses and curses (as in
Genesis 12:3). There are just some things that should be cursed. But there are so many things in our lives that should not be, which are hindering us from following freely after God. These are very dangerous things that can hold us in bondage our entire lives if we don’t deal with them properly.
