Healing from Addictions

Perhaps the most important thing I’ve learned on this journey to freedom is that God is the one and only healer. He doesn’t just treat symptoms, and He doesn’t just make you feel better, but He deals with problems at their root. “Behold, I make all things new,” He says in Revelation 21:5. But just because God is the healer, does not mean that we should discount those whom He called as doctors and physicians to do His work.

Sometimes quitting a substance too quickly, particularly one that your body has become dependent on, can be a very dangerous thing, and a doctor can help you know how to wean yourself away from whatever it is or help you supplement those dependencies in better, healthier, and nonaddictive ways. Always consult with a physician or specialist before attempting to cut your dependency on a substance too quickly.

That being said, there are some very important steps you can take on your own toward being free from the bondage of addiction. The very first thing you have to do is admit that you have a problem. Sometimes, this is the biggest and most effective step in the healing process, but it can also be one of the most difficult.
