Next Steps
Answer the following questions, journal about them, pray about them, or discuss them with a counselor or trusted friend.
-
What are some misperceptions that you’ve had of God? What are some Scriptures that speak truth to those misperceptions? If you haven’t already, take some time to talk about these with God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you in a deeper way through those truths.
-
Are there any other characteristics of God that you can think of which we didn’t discuss in this section? What are some scriptural examples of those characteristics?
-
Take some time and go back through each of the characteristics in this section, and also the ones you came up with in Step 2, above. Thank God and praise Him for each of these parts of His character and receive Him in each of these ways (Creator, Father, Friend, Savior, Healer and Redeemer, Lover, and “a lot like you”). As God reveals Himself to you in these areas, journal about what you’ve learned. You can refer back to this part of your journal for encouragement any time you find yourself struggling with God’s goodness, or even when you’re just having a bad day.
Now pray this prayer with us:
God, thank You for all that You are. You are truly amazing! I honor You and praise You as my Creator. I thank You that You know me so intimately and that You love me, protect me, and provide for me as a Father. I thank You that You are always there for me, like the best of friends. I praise You for all You’ve done as my Savior, Healer, and Redeemer. And I love You as my Lover. God, thank You for creating me in Your own image, and thank You for continually bringing me back to Your image day by day. I thank You for being everything to me—my all in all. Continue to reveal Your character to me that I might know You more and more and more. I love You so much! Amen.
